Sporty trail tour on Reunion Island

Description

Go in the heart of Reunion Island for 3 trail loops on the border of the Fournaise and Piton des Neiges massifs. All along the 50,5 kilometres of the route located between 1600 and 2300 meters of altitude, you will climb a positive altitude difference of 1600 meters.

I propose this star-shaped trail around Bourg-Murat, from where you will explore the superb high altitude areas of central Reunion.

Pick up and drop off is in Saint-Pierre (other towns on request). We have our own minibus for a total freedom!

If I am unavailable, a colleague from the Bureau Montagne Réunion Trek will take care of the supervision.

Program

D1: Off-trail at the Plaine des Sables.
Do you dream of walking on the Moon? I'll take you on a trip to an extra-terrestrial setting, through the Plaine des Sables, the Demi-Piton, the Piton Chisny, the Piton Rouge and the rampart of the Fouqué enclosure where our famous Piton de la Fournaise is enthroned. Off the beaten track, partly off-piste, this shallow, adventurous itinerary allows you to appreciate unique panoramas in an exceptional volcanic universe.
Duration: 5 hours, distance: 16km, positive altitude difference: 350 meters, negative altitude difference: 350 meters.

D2: Around the Piton Textor.
From the Piton Textor, we climb gently through the high vegetation to the Sainte-Thérèse oratory by the GRR2, to discover one of the most beautiful panoramas of the island. You will then dominate the spectacular break in the Rivière de l'Est along the top of the rampart of the same name. The show is guaranteed with breathtaking views of the highest peaks of the island! You will then reach the Piton Textor via the Piton de l'Eau trail, a rare volcanic lake in Reunion Island.
Duration: 6 hours, distance: 17km, D+: 600m, D-: 600m.

D3: The forests of Plaine des Cafres and Bébour.
Change of massif, change of atmosphere! Welcome to the green part of the island, at the border of the "cloud forest", the high altitude tropical forest. Starting from Mare à Boue, you walk through the bucolic pastures on this beautiful high plateau that separates the east and west coasts of the island. You gradually climb through the humid forest to reach the ridge separating the Bébour forest and the vertiginous arm of Sainte-Suzanne at the bottom of which lies the village of Grand Bassin. You branch off at the Chanson arm to immerse yourself in the enchanted forest of Bébour. A magical atmosphere guaranteed! Finally, you reach the Bébour pass and then climb up the Bébour peak to reach Mare à Boue and complete our loop.
Duration: 6 hours, distance: 17.5km, D+: 650m, D-: 650m.
