Description
Isolated in the heart of the Beaufortain massif in Savoie, the Grand Mont d'Arêches offers from its summit an exceptional panorama of the Mont Blanc and the Vanoise National Park!
You will make an incredible ascent to meet the high peaks of the Beaufortain, in the heart of winter!
The first day's walk on snowshoes will offer you a wild approach to reach the Alpage refuge, a comfortable stopover for the night with a view of the Mont Blanc!
Then a second, longer, day will take us to the summit of the Grand Mont at an altitude of 2686 meters.
In short, you will reach a beautiful objective and live an unforgettable experience in the heart of the Beaufortain massif, in a "pure mountain" atmosphere!
If you are interested in this activity, I also propose a one-day snowshoe hike on the mountain pastures of the nearby Outray mountain, and another two-day winter immersion on the high plateaus of the Vercors.
Program
D1: Climb to the Alpage refuge.
This first day of approach on snowshoes in a valley isolated in winter, above the village of Arêches, will allow us to reach the Saint-Guérin dam without difficulty. From this quiet place, in the middle of the Beaufortain massif, the Grand Mont, our objective of the next day, is in front of us!
A pleasant climb between spruce forests and clearings will give us the opportunity to soak up the wild character of the massif and to feel the presence of a sleepy but very much alive fauna.
Arrival at the Alpage refuge at the end of the afternoon, with a breathtaking view of Mont Blanc.
Meal and night at the refuge.
Positive altitude difference: 700 meters, walking time: 5 hours, transfer by car: 5 minutes.
D2: Ascent of the Grand Mont.
A sunrise over the Mont-Blanc massif and the breakfast at dawn will give us a good start to the day. The route over the Col de la Forclaz in the light of day is very aesthetic. To reach the summit of the Grand Mont, we will have to follow a pretty and small valley in a high mountain atmosphere.
Return to the refuge in the afternoon for a well-deserved break and then return to the starting point by another route.
D+: 700 meters, D-: 1400 meters, walking time: 6 hours, transfer by car: 5 minutes.

- Transport to and from Arêches, 30 minutes drive from Albertville.
- Accommodation: one night in a mountain refuge on a half-board basis (overnight stay, dinner, breakfast), 69€ to be paid on site.
- Equipment rental (snowshoes and hiking poles).
