Description

I propose you to come and discover or rediscover this frosty activity that is ice climbing!

Unknown to many, often considered (wrongly) to be dangerous or extremely difficult, it is nevertheless accessible to anyone who dares to take the first step.

In the heart of the Hautes-Alpes we will be climbing on secure and fast-access ice falls. All you have to do is enjoy the pleasure of this fascinating material!

This session is an opportunity to get acquainted with the specific equipment needed for ice climbing, such as ice axes, crampons, ice screws, etc. I will explain the better techniques and the most appropriate and efficient movements to climb these ephemeral ice structures with minimum fatigue. Of course, you will also be able to practice to get the feel for it and progress.

Here are some places where we can go to practice:

  • L'Argentière-la-Bessée, on its artificial or non-artificial structure. Here you will find a wide choice of routes for all levels.
  • Freissinières, a wild valley in the south of the Écrins massif. It is a bit of a hike to reach the natural structures set deep in the mountains.
  • The semi-artificial Aiguilles waterfall in the Queyras massif: Artificially fed with water, this structure offers numerous lines of all levels of difficulty. You can even try your hand at dry-tooling, i.e. climbing rocky routes with ice axes and crampons.
  • and many other places to discover.

If you are in the mood for winter activities but the ice conditions are not optimal, it is also possible to spend together a nice day of ski touring in the Hautes-Alpes.
