Program
D0: Welcome at the Domaine Alpin lodging.
You will be welcomed at around 5pm in your accommodation.
On the program of this first day: discovery of the place and installation in the rooms. Once you have unpacked your bags, a presentation of the week's program is made to you with a welcome drink.
D1: Gleize pass - Pic de Gleize - Bayard pass.
For this first day of hiking, the objective is to reach the Pic de Gleize by going around the mountain of Chaudun. This allows us to make a loop by starting on a hillside on which we may come across chamois or mouflons. Below, we admire the old village of Chaudun. We continue our ascent to the pass where we have a picnic, then follow a ridge line to reach the summit at 2161 meters. We enjoy the beautiful view on the Champsaur and the mythical Pic de Bure before going down by the southern ridges while observing Gap and its various valleys. On the way back, we follow the Napoleon road and stop at the dairy of the Bayard pass to taste some very good cheeses!
D2: Hiking on the heights of Sisteron.
Today we go to Provence, near the clue of Sisteron which forms astonishing limestone cliffs. Maybe we will see some climbers! We climb southward in the shade of the oaks on the Baume mountain. Then we cross a cave whose first part is a little lit by two windows offering a nice view on the Durance valley. Then we go through a darker part to exit through a cat flap. At the exit, we join the ridge by some steep passages (presence of cables for more security). We picnic at the top (1147m), enjoying a nice view of the Citadel of Sisteron. Finally, during our descent (by a forest track), obligatory passage in the "old Sisteron" to quench our thirst!
D3: The Aiguilles de Chabrières.
On the way to the Aiguilles de Chabrières with a magical view on the Serre-Ponçon lake. Departure from the resort of Réallon for a first ascent in a forest of larches where we can cross pretty roe-deers, then arrival on the crest with view on the lake. Then, we begin the ascent of the "aiguilles" with a passage in a chimney to reach the summit at 2349 meters of altitude. The view in 360° is splendid! Then, we go down again to picnic at the pass. For the descent, we go around the oucanes (geological curiosities) and we can meet the shepherd near his hut and observe his sheep in the lapiaz faults (oucanes). On the way back, we can visit the entrails of the biggest dam in Europe.
D4: The Baronnies Regional Park and the bee museum.
Cooler day in terms of altitude difference. We go to Provence in beautiful gorges for a water hike. The circuit is remarkable in a Mediterranean landscape. This hike can be enhanced by a swim in emerald green water with some natural jacuzzis. The site is classified Natura 2000 and is part of the Provence Baronnies Regional Park. On the way back, we will visit the bee museum and taste some good honey which has so many virtues!
D5: Hiking in the Dévoluy massif.
Today, we go to the Drouillet pass under the Petit Ferrand because it would be a shame to leave the Hautes-Alpes without having visited the French Dolomites and its chorums. We go up to a pastoral hut where we can meet shepherds and their sheeps, but also the famous patous. We walk through the beautiful valley of Truchière, hoping to see chamois, before arriving at the pass at 2240 meters which offers a splendid view of the Trièves. There, a picnic is necessary before going along the pass to discover 50 years old planes carcasses! Finally, we pass in the valley of Navites, before going along many chorums. To end this day, we join a pastoral hut before returning to the lodge.
D6: Hiking in the Champoléon valley.
For this last hike, we head north towards the Ecrins National Park with its wild and preserved nature, in the small picturesque valley of Champoléon.
The hike is very pleasant, and we can meet ibexes depending on the season. We pass in a valley bottom which offers us a landscape of "high mountain" in a magnificent cirque. A very nice refuge welcomes us for the lunch break. On the way back, we stop at the "shepherd's house" and in a cheese factory which offers various local products to satisfy the taste buds of the most greedy!
