The Añisclo canyon tour (Pyrenees)
Duration : 3 days
Spain, Pyrenees
Level : sporty
from 340 € / p. from 4 to 8 persons
Infos & BookingDescription
I propose a trekking in autonomy around the Añisclo Canyon in the Spanish Pyrenees.
This landscape of deep canyons carved out over centuries by the intense erosive action of the Bellós river will give you a wild and unique experience. The climbs are steep and the weight of a 3-day pack is quickly felt, so this trip is reserved for sporty people. The advantage is that you can pitch your tent with breathtaking views over the Aragonese landscape.
The route includes some vertiginous climbs and descents in the Añisclo canyon, but I will make sure you are safe and give you the right pace and advice to get you to the end of this trekking.
If you're interested in other treks in the Pyrenees, you can follow me for a 3-day ascent of the Pic des Posets or an original discovery of the Néouvielle reserve.
I also offer training courses towards autonomy, such as this preparation for trekking in the Pyrenees or an introduction to bivouacking in the Aure valley.
Program
D1: Climb above the Añisclo canyon.
Meet in Arreau, an hour's drive from Tarbes or Saint-Gaudens.
You start your trek in autonomy from the San Urbez hermitage at around 900 meters of altitude. In front of you, the impressive cliffs lining the Añisclo canyon give the impression of being impassable. But don't worry, I know the way to the heights of Les Sestrales, a plateau at around 2000 meters of altitude where you'll pitch your tent for your first night's bivouac. It's a tough day, as the climbs are steep and you occasionally have to use your hands down a bit, and the backpacks are heavy as they're well filled with food from the 3 days.
Positive altitude difference: 1200 meters, 6 to 7 hours of walking.
D2: Añisclo Canyon tour.
After an invigorating night and breakfast on the plateau of the Añisclo canyon, you pack the tent with Lake Médiano and Peña Montañesa on one side, the Monte Perdido massif and the 3 Marias on the other.
During the morning, you follow the canyon from above. This gives you a good view of the canyon before you begin the dizzying descent to the foot of the Rio Bellos. We then have two options: the first is to continue descending along the stream, or to climb back up on the other side. This will depend on the conditions at the time, your fitness and your ability to take paths where concentration is required.
D+: 200m, D-: 600m minimum, 5 to 6 hours of walking.
D3: Return via the bottom of the canyon.
Depending on the last bivouac site, the day will be shorter or longer. In any case, you'll have to descend into the Añisclo canyon and follow the Rio Bellos back to the starting point. This long descent takes you past some beautiful waterfalls of varying sizes.
D-: 600m, a minimum of 4 to 5 hours of walking.
Altitude differences and walking times are estimates and may vary according to weather conditions and participants' pace.
I reserve the right to modify this program for various reasons such as weather or physical conditions.
