« La roche à l'Agathe » via ferrata (Thônes)

Description

Located in Thônes, Haute-Savoie, the "Roche à l'Agathe" via ferrata offers a magnificent experience for mountain sports enthusiasts and thrill-seekers alike. It offers spectacular views over the Thônes valley and the surrounding mountains of the Bornes and Aravis massifs.

After a short, easy approach walk, the via ferrata quickly moves on to challenging sections with several vertical, athletic passages. Then come the footbridge and the monkey bridge, emblematic vertiginous obstacles that require good balance and mental coordination. The final section includes a very pronounced overhang, where arm strength is essential. This can be avoided, however, by climbing a ladder that faces the void, with your back to the cliff. But once you have overcome this difficulty, the panoramic view of the surrounding mountains is a superb reward for all your efforts. Finally, the descent is via a well-marked footpath.

General characteristics:

• Of a difficult level, this via ferrata is quite demanding and reserved for people in good physical condition and with some experience of via ferrata.
• Vertical drop: approx. 240 meters.
• The via ferrata is around 600 meters long.
• The route takes around 3 to 4 hours to complete, depending on the level and pace of the participants.
• Maximum altitude: 1087 meters.

Program

• The meeting point is at 8am in Thônes, at the start of the via ferrata.
• Allow 30 minutes' drive from Annecy and 50 minutes from Geneva.
• 5-minute walk to reach the start of the via.
• 2 to 3 hours ascent to complete the via ferrata.
• About an hour's descent back to the parking lot.

The price includes

• Supervision by the mountain guide.
• Loan of technical safety equipment (harness, helmet, via ferrata lanyards with energy absorbers, etc.).

The price does not include

• Transport to and from Thônes.
• Provident insurance.
• Snacks.
• All drinks.
• Anything not mentioned in "The price includes".
