Description

The Khopra Danda trek also known as the balcony of Dhaulagiri and Annapurna trek is a relatively new trekking trail in the Annapurna region just north of the famous Poon Hill.

The Khopra Danda trek offers breathtaking views of various peaks of the Dhaulagiri and the Annapurna ranges including the 8000 meters peaks like the Dhaulagiri I (8167m) and Annapurna I (8091m). As it is a recent trek, only a handful of trekkers make their way to it. If you are looking for alternatives to the more popular and touristic treks like the Poon Hill and Annapurna Base Camp or Sanctuary, the Khopra Danda trek is a perfect choice.

Each day, you will be welcomed by mountain views from various angles while walking through scenic trails that pass through lush forests of pine, bamboo, and rhododendrons, traditional villages, terraced farms, pastureland, ridges, etc. If you are trekking during the spring, the trails decorated with colorful rhododendron forests and majestic mountain vistas will leave you mesmerized.

The cultural aspect of this trek is also equally astonishing. You will walk through beautiful traditional villages of the Gurung and Magar communities such as Ghandruk, Nangi, Banskharka, Swanta, Ulleri, etc. The comforts might not be the best in the world but the experience of the vibrant local lifestyle, traditions, and hospitality is one of a kind.

Highlights:

  • A newly started and less explored trekking trail.
  • Breathtaking views of the Dhaulagiri and Annapurna ranges.
  • Authentic and immersive cultural experiences.
  • Traditional villages of the Gurung and Magar.
  • Beautiful and scenic rhododendron forests.

If you're in the mood for other great treks in Nepal, you can also follow me on the Manaslu tour trek, the Everest Base Camp and Kala Patthar trek, the Kanchenjunga Base Camp trek, the nearby Annapurna High Route, the Mohare Danda trekking or the Gosainkunda lakes trek.
