Infos & BookingDescription
I would like to take you on a wild trekking itinerary in eastern Nepal, from the Kanchenjunga to the Makalu region, crossing the Lumba Sumba pass (5200m). This is undoubtedly one of the best high-altitude treks in Nepal.
The Kanchenjunga to Makalu via the Lumba Sumba pass trek takes you to one of the most scenic and less explored region in Nepal's easternmost Himalayas, offering you an authentic experience. The landscapes and the cultural aspects of this trek are truly unique. As you walk close to the world’s 3rd and 5th highest peaks, Kanchenjunga (8586m) and Makalu (8463m), you will be rewarded with incredible mountain sceneries, especially from the adventurous Lumba Sumba pass.
During the trek, you will walk through vibrant hamlets and villages, pasturelands, waterfalls, lush pine forests, terraced farmlands, etc. In villages like Olangchung Gola, you can have a wonderful opportunity to see and experience the villagers’ traditional way of life, for example, the method of weaving a carpet. This region also has ancient monasteries of Tibetan Buddhism which have kept the teachings intact for a long time.
The Kanchenjunga to Makalu via the Lumba Sumba pass trek is not only an adventurous journey but also a spiritual and serene experience in the natural wonders. You will walk through remote and isolated terrains, spend the nights in tents as there are no lodges, teahouses, or human settlements in many places. This will give a feeling of what trekking used to be a couple of decades ago.
The Kangchenjunga to Makalu trek via the Lumba Sumba pass trek lasts 22 days. However, there are multiple ways to do it and to make it longer, you can add the two base camps of Kanchenjunga. The itinerary is flexible and can be customized per your preferences. Just let me know and I will organize the best solution for you.
If you are interested in other great treks in this region of Nepal, you can also follow me on the Manaslu Grand Tour trek, the Kanchenjunga Base Camp trek or the Everest Base Camp and Kala Patthar trekking.
