Yunga Cruz pre-Inca trekking

Description

I invite you to follow me to Bolivia on the pre-Inca Yunga Cruz trail, for a fascinating adventure that's as much about sport as it is about nature and history.

800 years old, this superb route connects mountain and jungle, crossing a varied range of landscapes and climates, usually in solitude.

Program

D1: Journey to Chuñavi.
Bus transfer from La Paz to Chuñavi (3-hour drive).
The road passes through the peaceful villages of the Palca valley, climbs the Pacuani pass that separates the Illimani from the Mururata, then crosses the gold-mining region to drop us off in Chuñavi.

D2: Trek to Solacama camp.
Start of the trek on a unique paved path winding up the mountainside in a mineral setting below the Cerro Khala Ciudad "stone city", then gradually descending to greener pastures.
7 to 8 hours' walk.

D3: Trek to Chulumani.
The gradual descent takes us through exuberant vegetation, where the use of a machete is sometimes necessary to clear a path.
7 to 8 hours' walk.

D4: Return to La Paz.
Bus transfer from Chulumani to La Paz (5-hour drive).
We return to the city first through waterfalls and banana fields, then over a high mountain pass.
