Duration : 8 days
Bolivia
Level : fairly difficult

Infos & BookingDescription
I would like to offer you the chance to experience the thrill of mountaineering by climbing the Ancohuma, a Bolivian mountain peaking at 6427 meters above sea level.
Ancohuma is an impressive granite massif covered in glaciers, overlooking the Altiplano and Lake Titicaca on one side, and the lush green valleys of Lareceja on the other. Its name means "white water" in the Aymara language. Due to a "small" miscalculation and subsequent scientific exploration of the Himalayas, it was for many years considered the highest mountain in the world. It was then known as the Nevado de Sorata.
If you would like to try mountaineering on other beautiful peaks in the Bolivian Andes, I suggest:
- the ascent of Chachacomani and Chearoco in the Cordillera Real,
- 3 days to climb Huayna Potosi,
- the ascent of the beautiful Nevado Illimani,
- two beautiful mountaineering routes in the Cordillera Oriental
- and the ascent of the Sajama volcano.
You can also opt for a traditional climbing holiday in the Quimsa Cruz Cordillera.
Program
D1: Journey to Peñas, visits, review and acclimatization.
Journey from La Paz to Peñas by private vehicle through the Bolivian Altiplano.
Acclimatization walk (4 hours, 300 meters ascent) around Peñas to visit Chiripa rock paintings and colonial ruins.
We take advantage of the surrounding crags to review roping and abseiling techniques.
D2: Transfer to laguna Chillata and start of the approach hike.
Transfer by vehicle to laguna Chillata. Then a picturesque path between jagged rocks leads us to the day's camp near the abandoned Titisani mine (4450m). The name means "place of the wild cat"
D3: Climb to the laguna Glaciar camp (5040m).
A long climb with smooth passages on slabs brings us to one of the most famous camps in the Andes: Laguna Glaciar.
D4: Climb to high camp (5400m).
Today we walk along a path that's not as difficult as it looks to reach the high camp at the foot of a large glacier.
D5: Ancohuma ascent.
Departure at night, we first have to cross a vast glacial plateau. Then a few zigzags between crevasses and steeper areas lead to the summit ridge and the Ancohuma summit.
D6: Extra day.
A day of rest, reserve in case of unforeseen circumstances or sunbathing.
D7: Return to Laguna Chillata.
D8 : Return to La Paz.
