Hiking tour of the Aiguilles de Chambeyron (Ubaye)

Description

Passes, larch forests, sublime panoramas, waterfalls and torrents are all landscapes that you will discover during this amazing 4-day trek that goes around the Aiguilles du Chambeyron in Ubaye and makes a detour to Italy.

Without forgetting the essential element of this massif: its lakes, sometimes emerald, sometimes of a deep blue, to be discovered and to admired at the bend of a path.

If you like trekking for several days, I also propose other hiking itineraries in Savoie: the balconies of the Maurienne valley, the high route of Vanoise, a trekking from Étendard to the Aiguilles d'Arves and the tour of the Mont-Cenis lake, but also further afield with an autumn hiking weekend in Piedmont.

Program

D1: Meeting in Maljasset (hamlet of Saint-Paul-en-Ubaye) - valley and pass of Mary - descent on Chiappera.
From the picturesque hamlet of Maljasset, we climb up the long Mary valley to reach the pass of the same name (2641 meters of altitude). Our efforts are rewarded by a magnificent view of the Roure lakes, the Pointes Haute and Basse de Mary, and the Italian Val Maira, through which we descend to the Campo Base hut (1640m), where we spend the night.

D2: Chiappera - Sautron pass - Larche.
After crossing Chiappera, we climb up to the alpine pastures to reach the Sautron pass (2865m), then switch back to the French side to reach the gîte in the village of Larche (1680m).

D3: Larche - Mallemort pass - Vallonnet pass - Fouillouse.
We follow the path over the col de Malllemort (2558m), past old ruined barracks, past the Vallonnet lakes, over the cols du Vallonnet (2524m) and Plate Lombarde (2535m) and down to the village of Fouillouse (1900m).
Overnight in a lodge.

D4: Fouillouse - Chambeyron refuge - 9 Colors Lake - Pas de la Couletta - Fouillouse.
This last day offers a splendid itinerary at the foot of the Chambeyron massif. After reaching the Chambeyron hut (2620m), we pass several small lakes, including the 9-colored lake... magnificent! We then retrace our steps a little to reach the Pas de la Couleta (2752m) and descend again to the village of Fouillouse.
A short twenty-minute transfer by vehicle to Maljasset.
