Infos & BookingDescription
Hiking in the Baronnies is the promise of a wild week in a remote place of the world between the Southern Alps and Provence.
Country of medium mountains where the sight carries away, the Drôme Provençale offers in spring and autumn a Mediterranean atmosphere which delights the five senses. From the crest of Lure to the mountain pastures of Pied du Mule and Fléossier, these are five varied and easy routes that I propose to you to discover this welcoming territory. On the program, beautiful forests, breathtaking panoramas, isolated valleys with strong character and surprising discoveries, cultural, historical, heritage or botanical !
Accommodation is done in a private cottage with half board, with home cooking and local products.
Discovery level: you do not necessarily have experience in hiking or mountain but you have a physical fitness and you want an easy stay to enjoy the mountain. Hiking days from 4 to 5 hours of walking with a maximum of altitude diffrence of 600 meters. The pace is quiet but continuous and good breaks are planned during the day. The routes are mainly on good mountain trails or off-trail without difficulty. A day of rest is usually scheduled in the week (small day of walking).
If you feel like other beautiful experiences in the south of France, you can follow me to discover the mountains of Provence, hike in the gorges and on the summits of Verdon and on the trails of the Calanques of Marseille and Cassis.
Program
D1: The summit of Chamouse and the maquis of Izon-la-Bruisse.
From the hamlet of Izon-la-Bruisse where we will cross the tragic history of the maquis of Ventoux, we will climb to the Chamouse mountain by a beautiful forest path and a beautiful ridge with breathtaking views. Beautiful suspended alpine environment and superb panorama on the Drôme Provencale, on the Ventoux and the Baronnies, and far away on the Alps.
Positive and negative altitude differences: 550 meters, 4 hours and a half of walking.
D2: Éourres et le Pied du Mulet.
From the friendly village of Éourres, happy survivor of hippies communities, we will climb towards the Pied du Mulet through a beautiful beech. Beautiful atmospheres and superb views of the impressive north face of the Montagne de Lure.
D+/D-: 550m, 5 hours of walking.
D3: Buc Mountain and Aulan Castle.
Just behind the village of Séderon stands the mountain of Buc and its large grassy ridges. To change compared with previous days we will leave the ridges and enjoy the foothills with the smell of lavender, from the foothills of Buc to the amazing castle of Aulan dated XIIth century.
D+/D-: 400m, 4 hours and a half of walking.
D4: The top of Larran and the jas of the Terres du Roux.
Change of mood and heading south! Little difference in altitude this day for a nice walk on the southern flanks of the Lure mountain dear to Giono. Forests and meadows follow each other up to the summit ridge, through centuries of history and in the form of an incredible heritage built of dry stones, of which the Jas des Terres du Roux is surely the most beautiful example. From above, superb views of Provence, Lubéron, Sainte-Victoire and all the Baronnies.
D+/D-: 300m, 4 hours and a half of walking.
D5: The top of Flossossier and the mountain of Chanteduc.
At the beginning of the Damias pretty and restored hamlet, we will join by old paths the Saint-Pierre pass then the summit crest of the mountain of Chanteduc. It will welcome us for a last picnic with a view! And what a view: Lure, Ventoux, Baronnies, Dévoluy, Écrins... it's all the region we have traveled and all those that remain to be seen that we will have under the eyes!
D+/D-: 600m, 5 hours of walking.
