I propose you to go to Bolivia for a trekking tour in the little-known mountains of the Apolobamba Cordillera, kingdom of the Kallawayas healers.
If you want to continue your discovery of the country's trails, you can also follow me for:
- a trek in the Royal Cordillera,
- a trek in the jungle of the Bolivian yungas,
- or some canyoning and hiking in the Torotoro National Park.
Program
D1: Drive from La Paz to Peñas through the Bolivian Altiplano.
Acclimatization walk (4 hours, 300 meters of positive altitude difference) around Peñas, to visit rock paintings of the Chiripa culture and colonial ruins.
D2: Drive from Peñas - Carabuco - Charazani.
Quite a long drive, first along Lake Titicaca, and then towards the mountains. Visit of the church of Carabuco and its frescoes.
D3: Hike from Charazani to Niñocorin then Curva.
Beginning of the trekking: we go up the dry valley towards the village of Niñocorin where we have to cross the river surrounded by trees. Then, long ascent towards the village of Curva, capital of the Kallawaya healers.
5 hours of walking, 700 meters of positive altitude difference.
D4: Curva - Jathunpampa - Ch'uxña Quta.
Still hiking, we cross the almost abandoned hamlet of Jathunpampa and reach the green lake, at the foot of the sacred mountain Akhamani.
4 hours of walking, 400 meters of positive altitude difference.
D5: Ch'uxña Quta - Incacancha.
We cross 3 small successive passes, using impressive pre-Incas paths (4750m, the highest point of the trek) to then camp down near the waterfalls and ruins of Incacancha.
5 hours of walking, 700 meters of positive altitude difference.
D6: Incacancha - Wayrapata.
Hiking on the mountainside through thick vegetation to the Quechua village of Wayrapata.
5 hours of walking.
D7: End of the trek.
Last pass at 4000 meters before returning to Charazani where you will enjoy the hot springs.
5 hours of walking.
D8: return to La Paz by vehicle.
