Description
I propose you to climb together the Huayna Potosi, an imposing pyramid of snow and ice which stands at 6088 meters above sea level not far from the city of La Paz in Bolivia from where it is clearly visible.
Although very popular and regularly climbed by tourist agencies, its ascent is not to be underestimated. While the majority of the route presents no particular difficulty apart from the fact that it takes place on a glacier, a number of steep jumps require more technique and skill. It is therefore a real mountaineering outing that we will experience here.
If you want to climb other beautiful peaks of the Bolivian Andes, I also suggest the following ascents:
- the Nevado Illimani in the Cordillera Real,
- the Chachacomani and the Chearoco,
- the Wila Lluxita followed by the Janq'Uyu - Jisk'a Pata crossing,
- Ancohuma, 6427 metres above sea level,
- the Sajama volcano, Bolivia's highest peak.
But also a climbing stay in the Quimsa Cruz Cordillera.
Program
D1: Transfer from La Paz to Paso Zongo.
Break during the journey for a visit to the Milluni miners' cemetery.
Snow exercices on the nearby glacier.
Night in a refuge at the altitude of 4780 meters.
D2 : Climb to the high camp.
By a good path between the stones, ascent to the high camp at 5180 meters which is in fact a small and quite comfortable hut.
3 hours of walking.
D3: Ascent of Huayna Potosi (6088m).
Very early departure toward the summit. The progression is varied although not very technical.
Arrival at the summit shortly after sunrise (5 hours of ascent), then descent and transfer back to La Paz.

- Supervision by the English-speaking mountain guide (1 guide / 2 people).
- Private transport La Paz - Paso Zongo (round trip).
- The cook and complete food (breakfast, lunch and dinner), with drinking water at will.
- Carriers for transporting the bags.
