Infos & BookingDescription
The "Bois des Baltuergues" (Baltuergues' wood) via ferrata, the only via ferrata in the north of the Aveyron department, offers you two routes of different difficulties to discover the Truyère gorges as you have never seen them. The easiest course is well suited to discover the activity or for a family outing or with a group of friends.
Located near Sainte-Geneviève-sur-Argence in the Aubrac region, this loop itinerary is very varied, fun and vertiginous. It offers a succession of footbridges and cable bridges, and it allows you to go from one bank of the Truyère river to the other. You have to cross successively the "Pont du Frisson" (Shivering Bridge), the "Gargouille" (Gargoyle), the "Passerelle Détendue" (Relaxed Footbridge) and the "Gâteau sur la Cerise" (Cake on the Cherry).
If the atmosphere is rather vegetable at the beginning, as the via ferrata is located in the forest, the horizon widens then to propose a more mineral universe. You have twice the choice between an easier option or a more difficult one with vertical and even overhanging (thus physical) and vertiginous sections. This via ferrata loop does not consist of a horizontal crossing, but it offers a succession of ascents and descents in fairly steep rocky walls. The place is very appreciated during summer because it is always cool in the undergrowth (beware, it is cold during winter).
I'm sure you will have a great time and will enjoy the experience!
If you're in the mood for other vertical adventures, you can also follow me on the "Gorges du Haut Cher" via ferrata in Montluçon or the Capucin via ferrata in Le Mont-Dore, Puy-de-Dôme.
And if you like vertical and also aquatic activities, why not let yourself be tempted by the nearby canyoning descent of the Argence gorges? (which can also be done in a full version)
