Caving in the Dent de Crolles: Guiers Mort

Description

I would like to take you on a half-day cultural and educational caving tour in the Chartreuse massif in Isère, France, to discover the history and geology of the Guiers Mort. Labelled a "wild river" in its upper part, the Guiers Mort rises in the heart of the Dent de Crolles before sculpting the Chartreuse landscape as far as the village of Entre-Deux-Guiers, where it joins the Guiers-Vif to form the Guiers river.

This introductory caving outing focuses on:

• the history of the first explorations of the Dent de Crolles, led by Pierre Chevalier and Fernand Petzl in the 1940s,
• and the geology of the Dent de Crolles.

This non-sporting approach to caving is aimed at anyone interested in discovering aspects of the Dent de Crolles little-known to the general public.

The outing is easy and accessible to children aged 10 and over.

If you would like to try your hand at this activity, I also offer a caving discovery tour of the Dent de Crolles in Chevalier cave, Annette cave and the Glaz loop. And if you want to go a little further, why not try the more technical caving route of the Glaz via the Ogive, the Elisabeth waterfall or the Solitaire gallery.

Program

• Departure from the village of Perquelin, in the heart of the Chartreuse massif.
• Commented approach walk to the Guiers Mort's porch (about 45 minutes).
• Guided tour of the "Grande Salle" and the "salle de l'escalade" (about one and a half/two hours).
• Walk back to Perquelin's parking lot (about 45 minutes).

The price includes

• Supervision by the caving instructor.
• Loan of helmet and lighting (no other caving equipment is required).
• Adult price: 30€.
  Children (under 15): 20€.

The price does not include

• Transport to and from Perquelin, about 45 minutes drive from Grenoble and one hour from Chambéry.
• Snacks.
• Drinks.
• Anything not mentioned in "The price includes".
