Gorges of Galamus canyon (Eastern Pyrenees)

Description

Ideal for initiation and discovery with family or friends, the canyon of the Galasmus gorges  in the Eastern Pyrenees allows you a first approach of the canyoning activity in a quiet and majestic environment.

In the heart of the Corbières massif, between Saint-Paul-de-Fenouillet in the Eastern Pyrenees and Cubières-sur-Cinoble in the Aude, the Galamus gorges are a deep cut in the Fenouillèdes limestone barrier. The river that runs through the heart of these limestone gorges, the Agly, has shaped some grandiose landscapes. You will discover a remarkable site with its hermitage and its high limestone cliffs which dominate the canyon.

The descent proposed here runs through the deepest part of the gorge, offering a magnificent aquatic hike, pleasant and fun, without difficulty, in clear water and a wild atmosphere. This itinerary will surely delight all the participants!

You can find here everything that makes the pleasure of canyoning, such as multiple jumps and small natural slides in sumptuous basins and pools, swimming in streams and beautiful waterfalls. It should be noted that this canyon descent is done without any abseiling and that all the jumps, from 3 to 6 meters, are optional. This aquatic and recreational adventure will make you discover one of the most exceptional place of the department

After a quick approach walk, the first part, which is flared, offers jumps, basins and a 5-meter waterfall, before a long narrow section dotted with small waterfalls. After the only escape of the course, the second part is more and more steep and ends with a swimming section. Several small jumps between 1 and 3 meters are possible, as well as a more important one of 6 or 7 meters to cross a waterfall.

This canyon is practicable from May to October, propose me your dates!

For more comfort and conviviality, the outing is done in small groups of 8 persons maximum.

And if you want to get some height, I advise you to complete your day of adventure by one of the two nearby via ferrata of Saint-Paul-de-Fenouillet: the "Pichona" or the "Panoramique".

Program

• Meeting point on the parking lot of the Galasmus gorges viewpoint in Saint-Paul-de-Fenouillet, 45 minutes drive from Perpignan.
• Discovery of the equipment.
• Approach walk of 5 minutes to reach the start of the canyon.
• Approximately two and a half hours of descent, with learning of the safety techniques.
• Return walk of 2 minutes to the parking lot.

• The technical equipment necessary for the practice of the activity (neoprene suit, helmet, harness, etc.).
